With frozen waterfalls, world-class icefalls, and dramatic alpine scenery, this trip is perfect for climbers eager to sharpen their skills or push their limits. You’ll explore legendary routes in Valnontey and Valleille, learning precise techniques under the guidance of UIAGM pros. From vertical ice to perfect hooks, this is your chance to climb hard in a wild, unforgettable setting.


Itinerary

You will arrive in the charming alpine village of Cogne in the Aosta Valley, Italy. After settling in, you will meet your guides and fellow climbers. The day will include a gear check and equipment fitting, followed by an introduction and safety briefing focused on ice climbing techniques. You will get an overview of the upcoming week’s climbing goals and schedule before relaxing and preparing for the days ahead.
You will start the day at a nearby beginner-friendly ice climbing area where you will learn and practice essential skills such as crampon use, ice axe techniques, rope handling, and belaying. You will climb easy, low-angle ice routes to build confidence and focus on movement and safety. After a rewarding day on the ice, you will return to Cogne to rest and enjoy dinner.
The day begins with warm-ups on easier routes before progressing to steeper and longer climbs. The focus will be on improving technique, speed, and efficiency, with the possibility of being introduced to multi-pitch ice climbing. In the evening, you will have a debrief session to discuss your progress and prepare for the next day.
You will visit some of Cogne’s classic ice climbing spots known for their quality ice formations and stunning scenery. You will practice advanced skills such as route finding, complex belaying, and movement on vertical ice. There may be an opportunity for a short alpine hike or some sightseeing in the afternoon to experience the local culture.
Enjoy a morning climb on a favorite route or try something new if time allows. There will be a wrap-up session where guides review key skills and answer any remaining questions. After returning your gear and saying your goodbyes, you will depart Cogne or continue your travels in the beautiful Aosta Valley.
