Dive into Ouray’s pristine backcountry on a 6‑day ice climbing seminar tailored for alpine progression. Guided by AMGA/IFMGA‑trained leaders, you’ll crack into steep ice flows in the San Juan Mountains, practicing techniques like front‑pointing, tool placement, anchor systems, and multi‑hour route planning. Ideal for climbers with basic ice experience, this seminar focuses on technical skills and efficiency in a rugged, off‑park setting. Small‑group format ensures personalized coaching and maximum safety.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival & Orientation: “Welcome to Ice Country”

You arrive in Ouray, settle in, and meet your guide. Gear is checked, plans are made, and the excitement begins.

Day 2 – Ice Park Fundamentals: “Tools of the Trade”

The journey starts with core skills in the Ouray Ice Park—footwork, tool use, rope management, and your first climbs on vertical ice.

Day 3 – Anchor Systems & Multi-Pitch: “Building the Backbone”

You expand into anchor systems, rappelling, and multi-pitch routes—gaining confidence and control on more advanced terrain.

Day 4 – First Backcountry Objective: “Into the Wild Ice”

Venturing into the San Juans, you apply your skills on real ice routes, learning to move safely and efficiently in the alpine.

Day 5 – Big Mountain Objective: “Climb the Ribbon”

This is your capstone climb—tackling a full-scale backcountry classic like Stairway to Heaven or The Ribbon with full commitment and flow.

Day 6 – Departure & Reflection: “Ice in Your Veins”

You head home, muscles sore and mind sharp, carrying the lessons, stories, and grit earned on the frozen walls of Colorado.
